“Electrical Systems of Power Consumption”

10.06.2026

The Master’s educational and professional program “Electrical Power Consumption Systems” is implemented Department of Electrical Engineering Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, specializing in 141 “Electrical Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electromechanics” at the second (master’s) level of higher education. The program is aimed at training top-level engineer-managers — specialists capable of designing, improving, and managing complex electrical engineering systems of industrial enterprises, oil and gas complex facilities, and infrastructure objects.

Program Orientation

The “Electrical Power Consumption Systems” profile focuses on solving current engineering practice tasks in the field of power supply and consumption. This is the part of the power industry where an engineer encounters real objects — transformer substations, distribution systems, industrial equipment drives, relay protection and automation systems, and energy consumption measurement and management tools.

The relevance of the program is determined by several key challenges facing Ukraine:

Competencies and Career Opportunities

A master’s graduate from this program is capable of independently solving complex engineering problems, conducting scientific research, and providing technical leadership. Key competencies include designing power supply systems for industrial enterprises, developing relay protection and automation schemes, managing operating modes of electrical energy facilities, implementing frequency-controlled electric drives, and organizing automated electricity accounting.

Graduates of the master’s program hold managerial positions in leading energy companies in Ukraine. Among the employers supporting the program and hiring its graduates are PJSC “Prykarpattyaoblenergo,” PJSC “Chernihivoblenergo,” VP “Burshtynska TPP” PJSC “DTEK Zakhidenergo,” PJSC “Ivano-Frankivskcement,” LLC “Karpatnaftokhim,” “Nova Energetychna Prohrama,” and many others.

Course Content

The curriculum of the master’s program is designed to deepen and expand the competencies acquired at the bachelor’s level. Required courses include a foreign language in professional activities, research methodology, labor protection in the field, organization and planning of operational activities, as well as specialized courses in electrical systems design, electromagnetic compatibility, modern methods of power consumption management, and reliability analysis of power supply systems. The elective part allows for deeper preparation according to specific career directions — from industrial energy to Smart Grid and renewable energy.

Some courses are taught by invited practitioners from leading energy companies. In particular, the course “Electromagnetic Compatibility” for master’s students is taught by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. Yuriy Sayenko from the Priazov State Technical University — one of Ukraine’s leading researchers in this field.

Forms of Study and Admission Requirements

The program is offered in full-time and part-time study modes. The standard duration of study is 1 year and 4 months (3 semesters) based on a bachelor’s or specialist degree in specialty 141 or related specialties of the electropower profile. The program concludes with the completion and defense of a master’s thesis — an independent engineering or applied scientific research that addresses a real problem in the field of electrical systems.

Accreditation and Quality

The program is accredited by the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education of Ukraine. The content of the program is regularly updated based on consultations with stakeholders — leading industry enterprises — and taking into account feedback from students and employers. The quality of education is confirmed by positive reviews from leading universities in the country and leading industry enterprises.
