Laboratory “Physical Foundations of Renewable Energy Sources”

10.06.2026

Laboratory “Physical Foundations of Renewable Energy Sources” (Room 9201) of the Department of Energy Management and Technical Diagnostics at IFNTUOG is a modern laboratory-educational complex unmatched by any other higher education institutions in Ivano-Frankivsk region. The laboratory is equipped with the most advanced EU-manufactured equipment and covers all key areas of renewable energy: from solar and hydropower to bioenergy and hydrogen technologies.

Educational Kits LexSolar

Modular educational kits by the company provide a demonstration of the physical principles of various types of renewable energy.LexSolar(Germany):

Full-size educational stands

Educational Stand “Autonomous Solar Power Station” executed on equipment of the company Victron Energy(Netherlands) — a world leader in the market of autonomous power systems. The stand is powered by a monocrystalline photovoltaic battery installed directly on the stand, or by an array of panels on the roof of educational building No. 9. The stands are mobile — they move on wheels, providing full access to all equipment from all sides.

Training Stand “Heliothermal Station” with vacuum tube collectors for water heating demonstrates the principles of heliothermal heating — one of the most common applications of solar energy in domestic and industrial use.

Simulator of solar radiation allows conducting research on photovoltaic panels and heliocollectors in stable laboratory conditions regardless of the weather.

Educational Stand “Autonomous Wind Power Plant” provides the study of the principles of converting wind kinetic energy into electrical energy and the features of autonomous wind power systems.

Rooftop Network Solar Power Plant

A 12-panel polycrystalline photovoltaic array has been installed on the roof of the building adjacent to Academic Building No. 9 with a total capacity of 3.4 kW. Grid inverter Fronius Primo 3.0-1(Austria) with a Wi-Fi module ensures the transfer of produced energy to the building’s network and remote monitoring. Smart meter Fronius Smart Meter 63A-1 demonstrates the principle of bidirectional electricity metering.

Educational Process

Classes in the disciplines “Physical and Technological Foundations of Renewable Energy” and other department courses are conducted in the laboratory. Students master the physical principles of all major types of renewable energy sources — from solar and wind to hydro, bio, and hydrogen. The laboratory is equipped with multimedia technology, Wi-Fi, individual heating, and a decentralized ventilation system with heat recovery.
