The laboratory is equipped with digital microscopic systems that allow not only observation of the rock structure in polarized light but also documentation of results in digital format\u2014photographing microsections, measuring fracture and pore parameters, and creating illustrative materials for scientific reports and publications.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"577\" src=\"https:\/\/discover.nung.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/06\/image-70-1024x577.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/discover.nung.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/06\/image-70-1024x577.png 1024w, https:\/\/discover.nung.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/06\/image-70-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/discover.nung.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/06\/image-70-768x433.png 768w, https:\/\/discover.nung.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/06\/image-70.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research Directions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the laboratory, the following types of research are conducted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Petrographic analysis of rocks in transmitted and reflected light \u2014 determination of mineral composition, structure and texture of the rock, degree of catagenetic transformations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Study of fracture networks in reservoir rocks in thin sections \u2014 assessment of fracture density, orientation, aperture, and filling, which directly determines the filtration properties of the reservoir.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research of reservoir pore space \u2014 determination of porosity type, nature of cementation, and degree of secondary alteration of pore space.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identification of cement minerals and clay minerals affecting reservoir permeability and its behavior when interacting with formation fluids and technological fluids.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Laboratory Equipment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Digital Microscope WEBBERS G50s 10<\/strong> \u2014 modern digital microscope for examining microsections with the capability to display images on a monitor and save snapshots in digital format. Provides convenient group work with students, allowing the image of the section to be simultaneously available to all present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Microscope Konus Academy<\/strong> \u2014 trinocular optical microscope for petrographic studies in transmitted polarized light. The trinocular head allows for the attachment of a camera or digital eyepiece to document results without losing optical observation quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Microscopic photosystem BIOREX-3 Trinocular with CCD-camera DCM500 and 3.2\u00d7 adapte r<\/strong>\u2014 a digital complex for microphotography of thin sections. The DCM500 camera (USB 2.0) connects directly to the computer and allows obtaining high-quality digital images of minerals, pores, and cracks with the ability for subsequent calibrated measurement of geometric parameters on the images. Similar capabilities are provided by the DCM510 camera, used in conjunction with the laboratory&#8217;s trinocular microscopes.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"654\" height=\"703\" src=\"https:\/\/discover.nung.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/06\/image-71.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/discover.nung.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/06\/image-71.png 654w, https:\/\/discover.nung.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/06\/image-71-279x300.png 279w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 654px) 100vw, 654px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Educational Process and Scientific Activity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Practical classes in petrography of sedimentary rocks, lithology, and oil and gas geology are conducted in the laboratory.
